UGC Releases Subject-wise Schedule for NET December 2025
The University Grants Commission (UGC) on December 17 released the subject-wise exam dates for the National Eligibility Test (NET) December 2025 cycle.
The examination will begin on December 31, 2025, and continue till January 7, 2026.
UGC NET December 2025 will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode for more than 80 subjects across India.
Shift Timings for UGC NET December 2025
The NET exam will be held in two daily shifts:
- Shift 1: 9:00 am to 12:00 noon
- Shift 2: 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm
Candidates are advised to check individual subject schedules for the exact exam date and shift.
Exam City Slip and Admit Card Release
The notification regarding city intimation for the December 2025 UGC NET exam will be issued 10 days prior to the exam on the NTA website.

About UGC NET Examination
UGC NET is conducted for:
- Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)
- Eligibility for Assistant Professor
- Admission to PhD programmes
The exam is held twice every year – in June and December – for candidates seeking academic and research positions in higher education institutions.

- Qualified for JRF & Assistant Professorship: 5,269
- Qualified for Assistant Professorship & PhD: 54,885
- Qualified for PhD only: 1,28,179
Candidates qualify based on performance and minimum score cut-offs required for their subject and category.
What Qualification Means for Candidates
- Those qualifying JRF can apply for funded research fellowships and teaching roles.
- Candidates qualifying for Assistant Professor can apply for faculty positions across universities and colleges.
- Candidates qualifying for PhD only can apply for doctoral programmes as per institutional guidelines.
